Hi Damien, sorry I only just got your post as we are still out walking! The section you are planning to walk goes over some high and steep passes which were still quite heavily snow-covered a month ago but I would imagine shouldn't be so bad now. An axe might be useful just incase, or trekking poles. Hope you have a good time!

Hi Tam & Adie,

Greetings from Vienna! We met in the bar of the campground "Font de Ferrosins" in the Vall d'Incles. I was the one wearing the Vibram Fivefingers and ordering lots of beer over an over again! :-)

The day you continued to El Pas de la Casa, we went on to l'Hospitalet-pres-l'Andorre as Ton wrote in his book. The book says that this is a short day (6h 40min) but it took us about 9h as there are lots of boulder fields to cross on the way down. And it is not at all "down". A few kilometers before we reached our destination (which is in 1436m) we had to climb another saddle of 2200m!

Anyway, we managed it in time to the village, had a big dinner with lots of wine and relaxed the next day in the hot springs of Ax-les-Thermes before we had to depart for going home!

I wish you good luck on your way to Mediterranean Sea and take care!

All the best from Vienna,
Bernhard

Hi Tam & Adie,

we've met at Camping Fonts de Ferrosins in the Vall d'Incles in Andorra. I was the one wearing the Vibram Fivefingers :-)

The day after we've met was our last day on our portion of the (Ton Joosten) Haute Route. We started walking rather late (as usual for us) - around 9:30. According to Ton it's a 6h 40min stage from the closed Camping d'Incles, so we assumed it is a nice short day.

During the ascent to the Refuge de Juclar we met a French guy again whom we've met before in Camping Forcallo (near Viados). We had a long lunch break at the Juclar hut. If we'd knew what to expect we wouldn't have spent so much time. The descent from Col d'Albert to l'Hospitalet-pres-l'Andorre was horrible. Along the lakes we'd to cross one boulder field after the other. Finally, we'd lost height to about 2100m but before finally descending to l'Hospitalet (1436m) we had to cross another mountain saddle of about 2200m.

It was already 6 pm and our French friend had managed to reserve a room and dinner for us in the Gite d'Etape. Dinner at 7:30!

Finally, we managed the stage in 9h just in time to have a shower before dinner! :-)

We spent another day in Ax-les-Thermes in the hot springs and continued home via Toulouse to Vienna.

We only walked sections 3 and 4 of Ton's HRP but it was a great experience. I'll come back to you as soon as I have the GPS tracks and photos ready on my web page!

Greetings from Vienna - good luck and take care in section 5!
