arrived in candanchu after a couple of fairly short but hot days.
expecting some big days coming up. we have 1 spare day and need to arrive
in gavernie next sunday to make sure we catch the prague flight! doing ok.
got a nice pic of a french fire hydrant for those interested ;) not needed
crampons yet but scared the crap out of ourselves on the ridge up to pic
d’orhy a couple of days ago and nearly roped up!

we have met some belgian guys walkiing this week’s stage so they are
keeping us entertained :)

after a delayed start with adie being ill, we started walking last friday
(19th) in the rain. we met 2 other pairs on our route, but the aussies
fell behind on the first afternoon and we lost the northern brits to the
GR11 towards the end of day 2. the stages are long and we have just
completed the first section (through the basque territory) to lescun in 8
days (the GR10 takes 11 days to get here). we encountered some fantastic
summer solstice celebrations in arizkun (spain) on the night of 20th then
kids still partying in les aldudes (france) the following evening.

just taking a much deserved and needed day off and getting washing done
and stocking up on food! 2 days ago we hit 2000m so we are getting into
the pyrenees proper now!

basque learnt: orea (bread), mishenko (thanks), bi garaganoa (2 beers)
spanish learnt: dos grandes cervezas por favor (2 large beers please), ola
(hello), gracias (thanks).

so we made it out mostly ok except adie is a bit sick so we are planning
to rest up here for a day or two. Tomorrow we’re planning to find a
supermarket and get supplies then find the starting point ready for an
early start on wednesday. Ta for the texts and good wishes :)
